In earlier literature, Tg was referred to as \"colloid\".Thyroglobulin should not be confused with Thyroxine-binding globulin, a carrier protein responsible for carrying the thyroid hormones in the blood.Tg is used by the thyroid gland to produce the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The active form of triiodothyronine, 3, 5, 3' triiodothyronine, is produced both within the thyroid gland and periphery by 5'-deiodinase (which has been referred to as tetraiodothyronine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eAssay Principle\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate TG in samples. An antibody specific for TG has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyTG present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for TG is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TG bound in the initial step.
