The PTP motif of this protein has the highly conserved arginine residue replaced by a proline residue; thus it may represent a distinct class of PTPs. Members of the PTP family are known to be signaling molecules that regulate a variety of cellular processes. This gene was preferentially expressed in both adult and fetal heart. An antibody specific for PTPLA has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyPTPLA present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for PTPLA is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of PTPLA bound in the initial step.
