The encoded protein is induced by the oncogenic Ras signaling pathway and functions as a tumor suppressor by activating the transcription of ARF and thus the ARF-p53 pathway to arrest cell growth or induce apoptosis. It also activates the transcription of aminopeptidase N and may play a role in hematopoietic cell differentiation. The transcriptional activity of this protein is regulated by binding of D-cyclins. An antibody specific for DMTF1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyDMTF1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for DMTF1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DMTF1 bound in the initial step.
