It may have a role in protective functions in the eye.Two alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different proteins have been described for this gene. The deduced 134-amino acid, 13.5-kD protein shares 45.5% sequence similarity with PRH1. It contains a 16-amino acid signal sequence, 21% proline residues, and an acidic N-terminal region. An antibody specific for PRR4 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyPRR4 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for PRR4 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of PRR4 bound in the initial step.
