The protein shares 43% and 31% sequence identity with Drosophila CG4523 and C. elegans EEED8.9, respectively. Northern blot analysis detected ubiquitous expression of a 2.7-kb transcript, with highest expression in heart, skeletal muscle, and testis. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for PINK1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of PINK1 bound in the initial step.
