IDI1 is a peroxisomally-localized enzyme which catalyzes the interconversion of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) to its highly electrophilic isomer, dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP), which is the substrate for the sequential reaction that results in the synthesis of farnesyl diphosphate and, eventually, cholesterol.
