Rat Epithelial Cells derived from testes (Sertoli) within the Reproductive system.

Sertoli cells are highly specialized cells found in the testes. They played an important role in the development and maturation of sperm cells, or spermatozoa, within the testes, a process called spermatogenesis. Because Sertoli cells function largely to assist the developing sperm cells through their maturation process, they sometimes are referred to as a nurse cell of the testicles. They are part of a seminiferous tubule and helps in the process of spermatogenesis [1] . Sertoli cells provide immature models for a high potential of nursing purpose and supporting function for the maturity. iXCells Biotechnologies provides high quality Rat Sertoli Cells (RSC), which are isolated from the testes of male rats aged 19-21 days and cryopreserved at P0, with >1 million cells in each vial. RSC express Vimentin and they are negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. RSCs can be maintained in Sertoli Cell Growth Medium ( Cat# MD-0091 ) under the condition suggested by iXCells Biotechnologies. (B) RSC are positive for Vimentin as shown by immunofluorescence staining.

Key elements and design rationale

Cell identity: Epithelial Cells (Primary Cells)

Source context: testes; Sertoli; Reproductive

Donor background: Gender: Male

Biosafety level: BSL-1 (follow your institution’s biosafety program and local regulations)

Product-specific elements (such as tissue source, donor background, and cell classification) help frame how results should be interpreted across assays and experimental conditions.

Biological background

Epithelial cells provide barrier and transport functions across tissues, coordinating innate defense, secretion, and repair responses in the face of environmental and inflammatory stressors.

Across primary and specialty cell models, experimental outcomes can be influenced by donor heterogeneity, passage history, confluence, and media composition.
