Anisomycin

Anisomycin is an antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis by targeting peptidyl transferase activity on the 80S ribosome. It disrupts both protein and DNA synthesis and is widely used in neuroscience research to activate stress-activated protein kinases (SAPKs), MAP kinases, and other signal transduction pathways. These pathways are critical in studying cellular stress responses, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation. Anisomycin has been instrumental in elucidating mechanisms of long-term potentiation and memory consolidation in the brain.

Classification: Toxic. May be harmful or fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin.
