Valinomycin

Valinomycin is a potassium-selective ionophore that facilitates the transport of K+ ions across lipid membranes. It is used in neuroscience to study membrane potential, ion homeostasis, and mitochondrial function. Valinomycin-induced changes in potassium gradients can influence neuronal excitability and apoptosis, making it a useful tool in neurodegenerative disease models.
