    Key elements and design rationale

    • Target: VIM — Vimentin
    • Antibody format: Host: Mouse; Clonality: Monoclonal; Clone: Clone: V9; Isotype: Mouse IgG1
    • Species reactivity: Human,Pig,Rabbit,Rat
    • Molecular weight guidance: Observed: 54 kDa; Calculated: 53733 MW

Specificity note: No cross reactivity with other proteins.

    Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): Vimentins are class-III intermediate filaments found in various non-epithelial cells, especially mesenchymal cells. Vimentin is attached to the nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria, either laterally or terminally. .

Scientific background (datasheet): The VIM gene was one of many that Gieser and Swaroop (1992) recovered from a subtracted cDNA library for retinal pigment epithelium. Vimentin gene express in human lymphocytes and in Burkitt's lymphoma cells. Vimentin is secreted by activated macrophages. The gene encoding human vimentin is located on the short arm of chromosome 10.

Cellular localization (datasheet): Nucleus matrix . Cytoplasm .

Tissue details (datasheet): VIM: Highly expressed in fibroblasts, someexpression in T- and B-lymphocytes, and little or no expression inBurkitt's lymphoma cell lines. Expressed in many hormone-independent mammary carcinoma cell lines.

Sequence similarities (datasheet): Belongs to the intermediate filament family.

    Research relevance and current trends

    • Commonly studied in contexts related to Neuroscience,Signal Transduction,Stem Cells,Tumor Biomarkers.
    • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
    • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

    Common research applications

    • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
    • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.
    • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Visualize subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; consider fixation/permeabilization compatibility and controls.

    Notes for experimental interpretation

    • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
    • Cross-reactivity (datasheet): No cross-reactivity with other proteins
    • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.
