Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of CTSE (Annexin A4) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Cathepsin E/CTSE Antibody Picoband® catalog # A04874-1. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human Cathepsin E recombinant protein (Position: A150-R393). (reported region: A150-R393).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 48 kDa; calculated MW: 35883 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Annexin A4; cathepsin E. Cathepsin E is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CTSE gene. This gene encodes a member of the A1 family of peptidases. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. At least one of these variants encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed to generate the mature enzyme. This enzyme, an aspartic endopeptidase, may be involved in antigen processing and the maturation of secretory proteins. Elevated expression of this gene has been observed in neurodegeneration. Functional note: May have a role in immune function. Probably involved in the processing of antigenic peptides during MHC class II-mediated antigen presentation. May play a role in activation-induced lymphocyte depletion in the thymus, and in neuronal degeneration and glial cell activation in the brain. Reported localization: Endosome. Expression/tissue context: Expressed abundantly in the stomach, the Clara cells of the lung and activated B-lymphocytes, and at lower levels in lymph nodes, skin and spleen. Not expressed in resting B- lymphocytes.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Adaptive Immunity: Researchers commonly examine how CTSE (Annexin A4) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Immunology: Researchers commonly examine how CTSE (Annexin A4) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Innate Immunity: Researchers commonly examine how CTSE (Annexin A4) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative CTSE (Annexin A4) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of CTSE (Annexin A4) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
