Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human Caveolin-1 recombinant protein (Position: G4-I178). Human Caveolin-1 shares 95% and 94% amino acid (aa) sequences identity with mouse and rat Caveolin-1, respectively. (reported region: G4-I178).
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 22 kDa; calculated MW: 20472 MW
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: Flow Cytometry, IF, IHC, IHC-F, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Caveolin-1; Caveolin-1. CAV1 ( Caveolin-1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CAV1 gene. The CAV1 gene is mapped to 7q31.2. The scaffolding protein encoded by this gene is the main component of the caveolae plasma membranes found in most cell types. The protein links integrin subunits to the tyrosine kinase FYN, an initiating step in coupling integrins to the Ras-ERK pathway and promoting cell cycle progression. The gene is a tumor suppressor gene candidate and a negative regulator of the Ras-p42/44 MAP kinase cascade. CAV1 and CAV2 are located next to each other on chromosome 7 and express colocalizing proteins that form a stable hetero-oligomeric complex. By using alternative initiation codons in the same reading frame, two isoforms (alpha and beta) are encoded by a single transcript from this gene. Functional note: May act as a scaffolding protein within caveolar membranes. Interacts ly with G-protein alpha subunits and can functionally regulate their activity (By similarity). Involved in the costimulatory signal essential for T-cell receptor (TCR)- mediated T-cell activation. Its binding to DPP4 induces T-cell proliferation and NF-kappa-B activation in a T-cell receptor/CD3- dependent manner. Recruits CTNNB1 to caveolar membranes and may regulate CTNNB1-mediated signaling through the Wnt pathway. . Reported localization: Golgi apparatus membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Membrane, caveola; Peripheral membrane protein. Membrane raft. Colocalized with DPP4 in membrane rafts. Potential hairpin- like structure in the membrane. Membrane protein of caveolae. Expression/tissue context: Expressed in muscle and lung, less so in liver, brain and kidney.
Research relevance and current trends

- Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how CAV1 (Caveolin-1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative CAV1 (Caveolin-1) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
- IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of CAV1 (Caveolin-1) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
- IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
- Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and shifts in expression; gating strategy and background staining controls are essential.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
- Family / similarity context: Belongs to the caveolin family.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
