Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of CD48 (CD48 antigen) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-CD48 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A03281-1. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human CD48 recombinant protein (Position: E51-D146). Human CD48 shares 54.7% and 49% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat CD48, respectively. (reported region: E51-D146).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 39 kDa; calculated MW: 27683 MW
  • Reactivity: Human
  • Applications: WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

CD48 antigen; CD48 antigen. CD48 antigen (Cluster of Differentiation 48), also known as B-lymphocyte activation marker (BLAST-1) or signaling lymphocytic activation molecule 2 (SLAMF2), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD48 gene. This gene encodes a member of the CD2 subfamily of immunoglobulin-like receptors which includes SLAM (signaling lymphocyte activation molecules) proteins. The encoded protein is found on the surface of lymphocytes and other immune cells, dendritic cells and endothelial cells, and participates in activation and differentiation pathways in these cells. The encoded protein does not have a transmembrane domain, however, but is held at the cell surface by a GPI anchor via a C-terminal domain which maybe cleaved to yield a soluble form of the receptor. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Functional note: Ligand for CD2. Might facilitate interaction between activated lymphocytes. Probably involved in regulating T-cell activation. Reported localization: Cell membrane ; Lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cell Type Markers: Researchers commonly examine how CD48 (CD48 antigen) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Immunology: Researchers commonly examine how CD48 (CD48 antigen) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative CD48 (CD48 antigen) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
