Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): Transcription activator that binds DNA cooperatively with DP proteins through the E2 recognition site, 5'-TTTC[CG]CGC- 3' found in the promoter region of a number of genes whose products are involved in cell cycle regulation or in DNA replication. The DRTF1/E2F complex functions in the control of cell-cycle progression from g1 to s phase. E2F2 binds specifically to RB1 in a cell-cycle dependent manner.

Cellular localization (datasheet): Nucleus.

Tissue details (datasheet): Highest level of expression is found in placenta, low levels are found in lung. Found as well in many immortalized cell lines derived from tumor samples.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Commonly studied in contexts related to Domain Families,Epigenetics and Nuclear Signaling,Forkhead Box,Transcription,Transcription Factors.
  • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
  • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

Common research applications

  • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify target-positive populations in single-cell suspensions; pair with viability and isotype/FMO controls conceptually.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
  • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.
