Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-Gastrin/GAST Antibody Picoband® catalog # A03612-2.

Biological background

Biological context: Calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein. Essential for maintenance of normal retinal and cochlear function.

Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cell membrane. Single-pass type I. membrane protein. Secreted., tissue context: Expressed in brain, lung, kidney, spleen and testis. Found also in the inner and outer synaptic layers, and the nerve fiber layer in adult and fetal retinas. Found in the supporting cells, outer sulcus cells and spiral ganglion of fetal cochlea. Expressed in cytotoxic tumor-derived T- and NK-cell lines as well as biopsies of nasal NK/T-cell lymphomas. Not detected in normal or in vitro activated peripheral blood cells, CD4 or CD8 lymphocytes or NK cells. Isoform 3 is expressed in brain, heart, cerebellum and kidney. CD1 isoforms, such as isoform 1, have a limited pattern of expression and is detected in testis, retina and cochlea. CD2 isoforms, such as isoforms 4 and 5, are expressed in heart, kidney, thymus, spleen, testis, retina and cochlea. CD3 isoforms, such as isoform 6, are widely expressed..

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): Compare GAST levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of GAST in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify GAST-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
  • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

  • Background: Gastrin is a hormone whose main function is to stimulate secretion of hydrochloric acid by the gastric mucosa, which results in gastrin formation inhibition. This hormone also acts as a mitogenic factor for gastrointestinal epithelial cells. Gastrin has two biologically active peptide forms, G34 and G17.
  • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cellular localization: Cell membrane. Single-pass type I. membrane protein. Secreted.
  • Tissue details: Expressed in brain, lung, kidney, spleen and testis. CD3 isoforms, such as isoform 6, are widely expressed.
