Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-GSTA1/GSTA2/GSTA3/GSTA4/GSTA5 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9627. Tested in IF, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human GSTA1/A2/A3/A4/A5, different from the related mouse and rat sequences by five amino acids.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 26 kDa; calculated MW: 25722 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IF, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5; Gremlin-1. Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. These enzymes function in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins and products of oxidative stress, by conjugation with glutathione. The genes encoding these enzymes are known to be highly polymorphic. These genetic variations can change an individual's susceptibility to carcinogens and toxins as well as affect the toxicity and efficacy of some drugs. At present, eight distinct classes of the soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta and zeta. This gene encodes a glutathione S-transferase belonging to the alpha class. The alpha class genes, located in a cluster mapped to chromosome 6, are the most abundantly expressed glutathione S-transferases in liver (hepatocytes) and kidney (proximal tubules). In addition to metabolizing bilirubin and certain anti-cancer drugs in the liver, the alpha class of these enzymes exhibit glutathione peroxidase activity, thereby protecting the cells from reactive oxygen species and the products of peroxidation. Functional note: Conjugation of reduced glutathione to a wide number of exogenous and endogenous hydrophobic electrophiles. Reported localization: Cytoplasm. Expression/tissue context: Liver.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cytokines: Researchers commonly examine how GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cytoskeleton/ECM: Researchers commonly examine how GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Embryonic Stem Cells: Researchers commonly examine how GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase A1/A2/A3/A4/A5) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Contains 1 HMG box DNA-binding domain.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
