Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human IL13 recombinant protein (Position: P36-N146). Human IL13 shares 55.3% and 61.9% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat IL13, respectively. (reported region: P36-N146).
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 20 kDa; calculated MW: 15816 MW
- Reactivity: Human
- Applications: IHC, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Interleukin-13; Interleukin-13. Interleukin 13 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL-13 gene. It is a kind of cytokine secreted by many cell types, but especially T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, which is an important mediator of allergic inflammation and disease. The IL-13 gene is mapped to 5q23-q31. IL-13 induces its effects through a multi-subunit receptor that includes the alpha chain of the IL-4 receptor (IL-4Rα) and at least one of two known IL-13-specific binding chains. Furthermore, this gene acts more prominently as a molecular bridge linking allergic inflammatory cells to the non-immune cells in contact with them, thereby altering physiological function. Functional note: Cytokine. Inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Widely expressed, including in adult and fetal brain, placenta, skin fibroblasts, adipose tissue and gonads.

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative IL13 (Interleukin-13) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
- IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of IL13 (Interleukin-13) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
