- Molecular weight: 49 kDa, calculated 82457 MW
- Applications: WB, IHC, Flow Cytometry, ELISA
Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-Kallistatin/PI-4/SERPINA4 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A08426.
Biological background
Biological context: Inhibits human amidolytic and kininogenase activities of tissue kallikrein. Inhibition is achieved by formation of an equimolar, heat- and SDS-stable complex between the inhibitor and the enzyme, and generation of a small C-terminal fragment of the inhibitor due to cleavage at the reactive site by tissue kallikrein.
Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Secreted., tissue context: Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma..
Common research applications
- Western blotting (WB): Compare SERPINA4 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of SERPINA4 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
- Flow cytometry: Quantify SERPINA4-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
- ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
- Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.
Additional product notes (from provided fields)
- Specificity: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Background: Kallistatin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SERPINA4 gene. It is mapped to 14q32.13. Serpin A4 is a member of the Serpin superfamily of the serine protease inhibitors. Known also as Kallistatin or proteinase inhibitor 4, Serpin A4 has been shown to function as a specific inhibitor of tissue kallikrein and as an inhibitor of angiogenesis and tumor growth.
- Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Cellular localization: Secreted.
- Tissue details: Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma.
