Key elements and design rationale

  • Target: KCNQ5 (heat shock transcription factor 2); UniProt: Q9NR82

  • Molecular weight: 102 kDa
  • Applications: WB, IHC, Flow Cytometry, ELISA

Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-KCNQ5 Antibody Picoband® catalog # A04705-1.

Biological background

Biological context: DNA-binding protein that specifically binds heat shock promoter elements (HSE) and activates transcription. In higher eukaryotes, HSF is unable to bind to the HSE unless the cells are heat shocked.

Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cytoplasm..

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): Compare KCNQ5 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of KCNQ5 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify KCNQ5-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
  • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

  • Background: Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily KQT member 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KCNQ5 gene. This gene is a member of the KCNQ potassium channel gene family that is differentially expressed in subregions of the brain and in skeletal muscle. KCNQ5 is mapped to 6q13. The protein encoded by this gene yields currents that activate slowly with depolarization and can form heteromeric channels with the protein encoded by the KCNQ3 gene. Currents expressed from this protein have voltage dependences and inhibitor sensitivities in common with M-currents. They are also inhibited by M1 muscarinic receptor activation. KCNQ5 has been shown to interact with KvLQT3.
  • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cellular localization: Cytoplasm.
  • Research category: Epigenetics and Nuclear Signaling,Transcription
