Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-liver FABP/FABP1 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9586. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Monkey, Mouse, Rat, Chicken. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human liver FABP, different from the related mouse sequence by two amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by four amino acids.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 14 kDa; calculated MW: 14208 MW
  • Reactivity: Chicken,Human,Monkey,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Fatty acid-binding protein, liver; Fatty acid-binding protein, liver. Fatty acid binding protein 1, liver, also known as FABP1 or FABPL, is a human gene locating at 2p11. FABP1 encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver. Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind free fatty acids, their CoA derivatives, bilirubin, organic anions, and other small molecules. FABP1 and FABP6 (the ileal fatty acid binding protein) are also able to bind bile acids. It is thought that FABPs roles include fatty acid uptake, transport, and metaboism. The liver form of FABP may be identical to the major liver protein-1 (Lvp-1), which is encoded by a gene situated within 1 cM of Ly-2. Functional note: Binds free fatty acids and their coenzyme A derivatives, bilirubin, and some other small molecules in the cytoplasm. May be involved in intracellular lipid transport. Reported localization: Cytoplasm. Expression/tissue context: Ubiquitous.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Lipid and Lipoprotein Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Lipid Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Metabolic Signaling Pathways: Researchers commonly examine how FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of FABP1 (Fatty acid-binding protein, liver) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the RRM TET family.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

Does PB9586 anti-liver FABP/FABP1 antibody work on parafin embedded sections? If so, which fixation method do you recommend we use (PFA, paraformaldehyde, other)?
As indicated on the product datasheet, PB9586 anti-liver FABP/FABP1 antibody as been validated on IHC. It is best to use PFA for fixation because it has better tissue penetration ability. PFA needs to be prepared fresh before use. Long term stored PFA turns into formalin, as the PFA molecules congregate and become formalin.
