Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Microsomal Glutathione S-transferase 1/MGST1 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9723. Tested in IP, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human MGST1, different from the related mouse sequence by six amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by five amino acids.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 15 kDa; calculated MW: 10, 18 kDa
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IP, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1; Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1. Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the MGST1 gene. The MAPEG (Membrane Associated Proteins in Eicosanoid and Glutathione metabolism) family consists of six human proteins, two of which are involved in the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandin E, important mediators of inflammation. Other family members, demonstrating glutathione S-transferase and peroxidase activities, are involved in cellular defense against toxic, carcinogenic, and pharmacologically active electrophilic compounds. This gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to electrophiles and the reduction of lipid hydroperoxides. This protein is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and outer mitochondrial membrane where it is thought to protect these membranes from oxidative stress. Several transcript variants, some non-protein coding and some protein coding, have been found for this gene. Functional note: Conjugation of reduced glutathione to a wide number of exogenous and endogenous hydrophobic electrophiles. Has a wide substrate specificity. Reported localization: Microsome . Mitochondrion outer membrane ; Peripheral membrane protein . Endoplasmic reticulum membrane ; Multi-pass membrane protein . Expression/tissue context: Highly expressed in liver.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Developmental Biology: Researchers commonly examine how MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Oxidative Stress: Researchers commonly examine how MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of MGST1 (Microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

We are currently using anti-Microsomal Glutathione S-transferase 1/MGST1 antibody PB9723 for mouse tissue, and we are well pleased with the WB results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human, mouse, rat. Is it likely that the antibody can work on feline tissues as well?
The anti-Microsomal Glutathione S-transferase 1/MGST1 antibody (PB9723) has not been tested for cross reactivity specifically with feline tissues, but there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in feline you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
