Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: E.coli-derived human P2X5 recombinant protein (Position: D333-T422). Human P2X5 shares 42% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with rat P2X5. (reported region: D333-T422).
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 47 kDa; calculated MW: 47205 MW
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: IF, IHC, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
P2X purinoceptor 5; P2X purinoceptor 5. P2X purinoceptor 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the P2RX5 gene. The product of this gene belongs to the family of purinoceptors for ATP. It has been identified that the P2RX5 gene within a BAC contig covering chromosome 17p13. This receptor functions as a ligand-gated ion channel. Several characteristic motifs of ATP-gated channels are present in its primary structure, but, unlike other members of the purinoceptors family, this receptor has only a single transmembrane domain. Quantitative dot blots revealed that P2X5R expression is highest in brain and immune system and is developmentally regulated. Functional note: Receptor for ATP that acts as a ligand-gated ion channel. Reported localization: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Expression/tissue context: Expressed at high levels in brain and immune system.

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative P2RX5 (P2X purinoceptor 5) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
- IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of P2RX5 (P2X purinoceptor 5) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
- IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
- Family / similarity context: Belongs to the P2X receptor family.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
