Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody targets alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 8B (gene ST8SIA2) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 42.4 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 39 kDa.
ST8SIA2 (also called STX) is a polysialyltransferase that builds long alpha-2,8-linked polysialic acid chains on N-glycans. Its best-known target is the neural cell adhesion molecule NCAM1, whose polysialylation reduces cell adhesion and supports neuronal migration and plasticity in the developing brain.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Mouse, Rat) |
|---|---|
| ELISA | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): rat kidney tissue, mouse kidney tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Recombinant human ST8SIA2 fragment (Asp69–Arg267), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt describes alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 8B as secreted and also located in the Golgi apparatus membrane and cell membrane. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Highly expressed in fetal brain, kidney and heart and to a much lesser extent in adult heart and thymus. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
