Overview
This antibody is intended for detection of SDC4 (Syndecan-4) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.
Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Syndecan 4/SDC4 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9388. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.
Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human Syndecan 4, identical to the related mouse and rat sequences.
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 22 kDa; calculated MW: 21642 MW
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: IHC, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Syndecan-4; Syndecan-4. Syndecan 4 is also known as SDC4. The protein encoded by this gene is a transmembrane (type I) heparan sulfate proteoglycan and is a member of the syndecan proteoglycan family. The syndecans mediate cell binding, cell signaling, and cytoskeletal organization and syndecan receptors are required for internalization of the HIV-1 tat protein. The syndecan-1 protein functions as an integral membrane protein and participates in cell proliferation, cell migration and cell-matrix interactions via its receptor for extracellular matrix proteins. Altered syndecan-1 expression has been detected in several different tumor types. While several transcript variants may exist for this gene, the full-length natures of only two have been described to date. These two represent the major variants of this gene and encode the same protein. Functional note: Cell surface proteoglycan that bears heparan sulfate. Reported localization: Isoform 1: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Secreted. Shedding of the ectodomain produces a soluble form. . Expression/tissue context: Expressed in epithelial and fibroblastic cells. .
Research relevance and current trends

- ECM Proteins: Researchers commonly examine how SDC4 (Syndecan-4) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative SDC4 (Syndecan-4) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
- IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of SDC4 (Syndecan-4) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
