Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of VIM (Vimentin) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Vimentin Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9359. Tested in IF, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human Vimentin, identical to the related mouse and rat sequences.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 54 kDa; calculated MW: 53652 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: IF, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Vimentin; Vimentin. VIM (vimentin) is also known as HEL113 or CTRCT30. This gene encodes a member of the intermediate filament family. Intermediate filamentents, along with microtubules and actin microfilaments, make up the cytoskeleton. The protein encoded by this gene is responsible for maintaining cell shape, integrity of the cytoplasm, and stabilizing cytoskeletal interactions. It is also involved in the immune response, and controls the transport of low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-derived cholesterol from a lysosome to the site of esterification. It functions as an organizer of a number of critical proteins involved in attachment, migration, and cell signaling. Mutations in this gene causes a dominant, pulverulent cataract. Functional note: Vimentins are class-III intermediate filaments found in various non-epithelial cells, especially mesenchymal cells. Vimentin is attached to the nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and mitochondria, either laterally or terminally. . Reported localization: Cytoplasm . Expression/tissue context: Highly expressed in fibroblasts, some expression in T- and B-lymphocytes, and little or no expression in Burkitt's lymphoma cell lines. Expressed in many hormone- independent mammary carcinoma cell lines. .

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how VIM (Vimentin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cell Type Marker: Researchers commonly examine how VIM (Vimentin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cytoskeleton: Researchers commonly examine how VIM (Vimentin) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative VIM (Vimentin) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of VIM (Vimentin) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the intermediate filament family.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
