Product Overview

CD80 is a 60 kD highly glycosylated protein. It is a member of the Ig superfamily and is also known as B7-1, B7, and Ly-53. CD80 is constitutively expressed on dendritic cells and monocytes/macrophages, and inducibly expressed on activated B and T cells. The ligation of CD28 on T cells with CD80 and CD86 (B7-2) on antigen presenting cells (such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells) elicits co-stimulation of T cells resulting in enhanced cell activation, proliferation, and cytokine production. CD80 appears to be expressed later in the immune response than CD86. CD80 can also bind to CD152, also known as CTLA-4, to deliver an inhibitory signal to T cells.

Can this antibody be used for intracellular flow cytometry (ICFCM) as well as surface staining?

This antibody is validated for flow cytometry applications. For intracellular targets, fix and permeabilize cells using a validated fixation/permeabilization kit (e.g., BD Cytofix/Cytoperm or similar) before staining. For surface markers, stain live or fixed cells without permeabilization. Always include a matched isotype control (Armenian Hamster IgG, Armenian Hamster origin) at the same protein concentration as the test antibody to establish non-specific binding thresholds. Recommended starting dilution/concentration: see datasheet.

What species is this CD80 antibody validated in, and will it work in my model organism?

This antibody has been experimentally validated in: Mouse. Cross-reactivity with other species has not been systematically evaluated. If your sample species is not listed, assess immunogen sequence homology to your target species ortholog. The immunogen used is: "" — higher sequence identity between species increases the probability of cross-reactivity, but experimental validation with appropriate controls is necessary before drawing scientific conclusions.

What are the storage and stability requirements for this antibody?

This product can be stored at 2-8°C for 12 months. Please protected from prolonged exposure to light and do not freeze. Storage Buffer: Phosphate buffered solution, pH 7.2, containing 0.09% stabilizer and 1% protein protectant.. To maintain antibody activity, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Aliquot into single-use volumes before first freeze. If working with the antibody frequently, keep a working stock at 4°C for up to 4 weeks — add 0.02% sodium azide to the working stock as a bacteriostatic agent if azide is not already present in the buffer. Monitor performance against a validated positive control when transitioning between storage aliquots or lots.

What are the advantages of using a monoclonal antibody for CD80 detection?

This monoclonal antibody (clone 16-10A1) provides highly consistent, epitope-specific recognition of CD80, making it ideal for quantitative assays, multiplex panels, and studies requiring strict reproducibility across experiments and independent laboratories. Unlike polyclonal preparations, each production batch from a single hybridoma clone generates antibody with identical epitope specificity, affinity, and isotype — ensuring reliable signal comparison in longitudinal studies or multi-site collaborations. When citing this antibody in publications, include the clone designation (clone 16-10A1) to enable third-party reproducibility verification.
