Scientific Background

CD160 is an 27 kDa glycoprotein which was initially identified with the monoclonal antibody BY55. Its expression is tightly associated with peripheral blood NK cells and CD8 T lymphocytes with cytolytic effector activity. The cDNA sequence of CD160 predicts a cysteine-rich, glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein of 181 amino acids with a single Ig-like domain weakly homologous to KIR2DL4 molecule. CD160 is expressed at the cell surface as a tightly disulfide-linked multimer. RNA blot analysis revealed CD160 mRNAs of 1.5 and 1.6 kb whose expression was highly restricted to circulating NK and T cells, spleen and small intestine.

What expression system was used and how does it affect protein quality?

This protein was produced in Mammalian (HEK293). Mammalian expression enables human-like glycosylation, correct disulfide bond formation, and proper protein folding — all critical for proteins used in binding interaction studies (SPR/BLI) and antibody characterisation. For transmembrane proteins expressed as ectodomains or nanodisc preparations, the expression system directly affects binding conformation and assay performance.

What amino acid region does this construct cover?

The molecular characterisation of this construct is: CD160(Ile27-Ser159) 6×His tag. Cross-reference with the UniProt entry (O95971) to confirm the expressed region includes your domain of interest — receptor-binding domain, extracellular domain, or specific epitope — before ordering.

What is the purity of this protein and how was it verified?

The purity of the protein is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE and Coomassie blue staining.. A gel image showing the protein band is provided with each lot on the Certificate of Analysis. This high-purity specification is suitable for SPR/BLI kinetics measurements, ELISA standard curve development, and antibody epitope binding studies.

How should I reconstitute and store this protein?

Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for reconstitution instructions for your specific lot. Storage: Store at -20°C to -80°C for 12 months in lyophilized form. After reconstitution, if not intended for use within a month, aliquot and store at -80°C (A Prepare single-use working aliquots after reconstitution to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Lyophilized protein is stable for 12 months at −80°C from the date of receipt.

What is the expected delivery lead time?

Options listed in “availability content”; other statuses may take longer. Contact BioHippo to confirm current availability and place time-sensitive orders. For large-scale or bulk requirements, extended lead times may apply for custom production runs.

BioHippo offers flexible sourcing for qualified research institutions and partners.

  • Alternative tag formats: Different Fc isotypes (hFc vs mFc), His-tag, or biotinylated variants may be available upon request.
  • Biotinylated proteins: Site-specific biotinylation for SPR/BLI streptavidin-coated chip immobilisation.
  • Nanodisc preparations: Full-length transmembrane protein in synthetic nanodisc format for soluble binding studies.
  • Bulk quantities: mg-scale production for high-throughput screening.
  • Custom species variants: Mouse, rat, or non-human primate orthologs may be available.
