Overview
Amine Quantum Dots are a group of water soluble core/shell quantum dots with reactive group of amine, which allows covalent bond formation to antibodies, proteins, peptides or other biomolecules via primary amine, carboxy or thiol groups. Their surface is specifically engineered with a polymer coating for high binding capacity and low non-specific binding. Amine Quantum Dots are very stable in most buffer solutions in the pH range of 5-10.
These’s amine-terminated quantum dots, ranging from 425-665 nm, are now available in an easy-to-use kit format (QAK), allowing researchers to conjugate antibodies, proteins, peptides or other biomolecules of their own choice. The kit is used to specifically conjugate quantum dots and antibodies, proteins, peptides or other biomolecules with primary amine, carboxy or thiol groups with low non-specific binding. It contains Amine Quantum Dots and reagents sufficient for performing four (4) conjugation reactions. Briefly, the QDs are activated using SMCC (succinimidyl 4-(N-maleimidomethyl) cyclohexane-1-carboxylate), followed by conjugation to thiol groups that are present on the target protein/ligands such as bovine serum albumin, streptavidin and immunoglobulin.

Amine Quantum Dots are water-soluble core/shell quantum dots (emission 425–645 nm, 8 µM) with primary amine (–NH₂) surface groups. Compared to organic dyes, they exhibit superior photostability, narrower emission peaks (FWHM < 35 nm), and broad excitation allowing simultaneous multi-color detection from a single light source.
Amine groups can be coupled to carboxyl-bearing targets via EDC activation, or to thiol-bearing targets via Sulfo-SMCC crosslinker. QD Conjugation Kits providing all required reagents are available separately. For NHS ester-functionalized molecules, direct NHS–amine coupling can be used without further activation.
Amine QDs have a zeta potential from –20 mV to +10 mV depending on pH. Positive zeta potential can increase electrostatic interaction with negatively charged cell membranes, which may be an advantage for cell labeling but requires testing for non-specific binding in your specific matrix.
Store at 2–8°C, protected from prolonged light exposure. Do not freeze. Avoid strong oxidizing agents and extreme pH. Check the specification sheet for shelf life guidance.
