ADAMTS13 is a plasma metalloprotease that cuts ultra-large von Willebrand factor (vWF) multimers into smaller forms, limiting platelet clumping. Severe ADAMTS13 deficiency, inherited or autoimmune, causes thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
