Overview
This antibody is intended for detection of ARC (Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.
Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Arc Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9753. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.
Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human Arc, different from the related mouse sequence by two amino acids, and from the related rat sequence by three amino acids.
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 45 kDa; calculated MW: 45316 MW
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein; Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein. ARC, officially called activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein, is a plasticity protein first characterized in 1995. It is a member of the immediate-early gene (IEG) family. The ARC gene is mapped to chromosome 8q24. It has got 460 amino acid protein which shares significant similarity with rat Arc. The Arc is highly expressed in heart, brain, lung, skeletal muscle, pancreas, prostate and testis and has got weak expression in small intestine, colon, and peripheral blood leukocytes. Arc is widely considered to be an important protein in neurobiology and also a significant tool for systems neuroscience. Functional note: Required for consolidation of synaptic plasticity as well as formation of long-term memory. Regulates endocytosis of AMPA receptors in response to synaptic activity. Required for homeostatic synaptic scaling of AMPA receptors (By similarity). Plays a role in the regulation of cell morphology and cytoskeletal organization. Required in the stress fiber dynamics and cell migration. . Reported localization: Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton . Endosome . Cytoplasmic vesicle, secretory vesicle, acrosome . Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane, postsynaptic density . Cell projection, dendrite . Cell projection, dendritic spine . Cell junction, synapse . Associated with the cell cortex of neuronal soma and dendrites. Enriched in postsynaptic density of dendritic spines. Associated with the sperm tail (By similarity). Enriched on the plasma membrane. . Expression/tissue context: Expressed in heart, brain, liver and prostate, but not in kidney, lung, adrenal, aorta and pituitary. Within the prostate, expressed in the apex, base, periurethral and lateral lobe. Isoform 4 is the most abundant isoform expressed in the prostate with high levels also detected in liver and heart. .

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative ARC (Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
