    Biological background

Protein function (datasheet): Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is implicated in various adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages and granulocytes as well as in mediating the uptake of complement-coated particles. It is identical with CR-3, the receptor for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component. It probably recognizes the R-G-D peptide in C3b. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is also a receptor for fibrinogen, factor X and ICAM1. It recognizes P1 and P2 peptides of fibrinogen gamma chain.

Cellular localization (datasheet): Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.

Tissue details (datasheet): Predominantly expressed in monocytes and granulocytes.

    Research relevance and current trends

    • Commonly studied in contexts related to Cell Adhesion,Cell Type Marker,Cell Type Markers,Cytoskeleton/ECM,Hematopoietic Progenitors,Integrins,Lymphoid,Mesenchymal Stem Cells,Myeloid,Neuroscience,Signal Transduction,Stem Cells,T Lymphocytic Lineage.
    • Supports comparative expression analysis across conditions, genotypes, or treatments when paired with appropriate controls.
    • Useful for confirming target presence and subcellular distribution using orthogonal readouts (e.g., microscopy vs. immunoblotting).

    Common research applications

    • Western blot (WB): Compare relative target abundance and apparent size/isoforms across samples; interpret bands in light of expected MW and potential PTMs.
    • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Assess tissue distribution and cell-type patterns; interpret staining with appropriate negative controls and antigen context.
    • Immunofluorescence / ICC: Visualize subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; consider fixation/permeabilization compatibility and controls.
    • Flow cytometry: Quantify target-positive populations in single-cell suspensions; pair with viability and isotype/FMO controls conceptually.

    Notes for experimental interpretation

    • Consider isoforms, post-translational modifications, and processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or localization.
    • Use appropriate positive and negative controls (e.g., KO/KD, blocking peptide, or isotype controls) to support specificity interpretation.

As a monoclonal antibody, this reagent is expected to recognize a defined epitope, which can support consistency across lots when epitope accessibility is preserved.
