Overview
Antibody against MAPT/Tau/PHF-tau (Microtubule-associated protein tau) for research detection of protein expression and localization.
Target biology
MAPT encodes tau, a microtubule-associated protein that stabilizes microtubules in neurons and contributes to axonal transport and cytoskeletal organization. Aberrant phosphorylation and aggregation of tau are hallmark features of several neurodegenerative diseases (tauopathies), and phospho‑tau epitopes are widely used as pathology-associated readouts.
Expected localization
Predominantly axonal/cytoskeletal in neurons; can redistribute and accumulate in somatodendritic compartments in disease states.
Research context
This target is frequently studied in the context of Neuroscience research. Application suitability (e.g., ELISA) is indicated in the specifications; conditions should be optimized by titration. Species reactivity information is provided in the specifications (reported: Human).
Recommended experimental notes
- For ELISA, ensure capture/detection antibody compatibility and run a standard curve; verify sample matrix effects with spike-and-recovery and dilution linearity.
Controls & interpretation
Where possible, confirm specificity using genetic perturbation (KO/KD/CRISPR), peptide competition (if applicable), or an orthogonal readout. Include a negative control sample expected to express low/none of MAPT/Tau/PHF-tau, and a positive control sample known to express MAPT/Tau/PHF-tau.
For research use only. Not for diagnostic procedures.
