- Molecular weight: 18 kDa, calculated 20282 MW
- Applications: WB, IHC, Flow Cytometry, ELISA
Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-IL1RA/Il1rn Antibody Picoband® catalog # A00651-5.
Biological background
Biological context: Inhibits the activity of interleukin-1 by binding to receptor IL1R1 and preventing its association with the coreceptor IL1RAP for signaling. Has no interleukin-1 like activity (By similarity). .
Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Secreted ., tissue context: The intracellular form of IL1RN is predominantly expressed in epithelial cells..
Common research applications
- Western blotting (WB): Compare Il1rn levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of Il1rn in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
- Flow cytometry: Quantify Il1rn-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
- ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
- Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.
Additional product notes (from provided fields)
- Background: The interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL1RN gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This protein inhibits the activities of interleukin 1, alpha (IL1A) and interleukin 1, beta (IL1B), and modulates a variety of interleukin 1 related immune and inflammatory responses. This gene and five other closely related cytokine genes form a gene cluster spanning approximately 400 kb on chromosome 2. A polymorphism of this gene is reported to be associated with increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
- Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Cellular localization: Secreted .
- Tissue details: The intracellular form of IL1RN is predominantly expressed in epithelial cells.
- Research category: Cytokines,Immunology,Innate Immunity,Interleukins
