Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of LTF in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Lactoferrin/LTF Antibody Picoband® catalog # A00633-1. Tested in ELISA, IF, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human Lactoferrin recombinant protein (Position: D529-K710). (reported region: D529-K710).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 85 kDa; calculated MW: 78 kDa
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: ELISA, IF, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

lactotransferrin. Lactoferrin (LF), also known as lactotransferrin (LTF), is a multifunctional protein of the transferrin family. The protein is a major iron-binding protein in milk and body secretions with an antimicrobial activity, making it an important component of the non-specific immune system. The protein demonstrates a broad spectrum of properties, including regulation of iron homeostasis, host defense against a broad range of microbial infections, anti-inflammatory activity, regulation of cellular growth and differentiation and protection against cancer development and metastasis. Antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic activity has been found for this protein and its peptides. Functional note: Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe (3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. Reported localization: Isoform 1: Secreted. Cytoplasmic granule. Secreted into most exocrine fluids by various endothelial cells. Stored in the secondary granules of neutrophils. Expression/tissue context: High levels are found in saliva and tears, intermediate levels in serum and plasma, and low levels in urine. In kidney, detected in the distal collecting tubules in the medulla but not in the cortical region or in blood vessels. Detected in peripheral blood neutrophils (at protein level). Isoform 1 and isoform DeltaLf are expressed in breast, prostate, spleen, pancreas, kidney, small intestine, lung, skeletal muscle, uterus, thymus and fetal liver. Isoform 1 is expressed in brain, testis and peripheral blood leukocytes; isoform DeltaLf is barely detectable in these tissues. Isoform DeltaLf is expressed in placenta, liver and ovary; isoform 1 is barely detectable in these tissues. In kidney, isoform 1 is expressed at high levels in the collecting tubules of the medulla but at very low levels in the cortex.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Cardiovascular: Researchers commonly examine how LTF relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cell Death: Researchers commonly examine how LTF relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Invasion/Microenvironment: Researchers commonly examine how LTF relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative LTF levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of LTF across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

We are currently using anti-Lactoferrin/LTF antibody A00633-1 for human tissue, and we are well pleased with the IHC-F results. The species of reactivity given in the datasheet says human, mouse, rat. Is it true that the antibody can work on goat tissues as well?
The anti-Lactoferrin/LTF antibody (A00633-1) has not been tested for cross reactivity specifically with goat tissues, but there is a good chance of cross reactivity. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in goat you can get your next antibody for free. Please contact me if I can help you with anything.
I was wanting to use your anti-Lactoferrin/LTF antibody for IHC-P for mouse bone marrow on frozen tissues, but I want to know if it has been tested for this particular application. Has this antibody been tested and is this antibody a good choice for mouse bone marrow identification?
It shows on the product datasheet, A00633-1 anti-Lactoferrin/LTF antibody has been tested for ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IF, IHC-P, IHC-F, ICC, WB on human, mouse, rat tissues. We have an innovator award program that if you test this antibody and show it works in mouse bone marrow in IHC-frozen, you can get your next antibody for free.
