Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody recognizes leptin in rat samples and is validated for ELISA and Western blot. The predicted molecular weight is 18.9 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 16 kDa.
Leptin (LEP) is a hormone secreted mainly by adipose tissue in proportion to fat mass. Acting through its receptor LEPR in the hypothalamus, it reduces food intake and increases energy expenditure, and it also influences reproduction, immunity and bone metabolism. Leptin deficiency causes severe obesity in mice and humans, and leptin is a key target in obesity and metabolic research.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): recombinant rat Leptin protein.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:10000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Recombinant rat Leptin fragment (Val22–Cys167), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the human and mouse orthologs: 83.6% and 95.9%, respectively.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with rat. UniProt describes leptin as a secreted protein. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
