Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human SLC7A3, different from the related mouse and rat sequences by four amino acids.
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 67 kDa; calculated MW: 67169 MW
- Reactivity: Human
- Applications: WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Cationic amino acid transporter 3. Cationic amino acid transporter 3 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC7A3 gene. This gene encodes a member of the solute carrier family 7. The encoded protein is a sodium-independent cationic amino acid transporter. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcripts that encoded the same protein. The International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium mapped the SLC7A3 gene to the X chromosome. Functional note: Mediates the uptake of the cationic amino acids arginine, lysine and ornithine in a sodium-independent manner. . Reported localization: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Expression/tissue context: Highly expressed in thymus, uterus and testis. Detected at lower levels in brain, mammary gland, prostate, salivary gland and fetal spleen. In brain, highest expression in thalamus, hippocampus and amygdala. .

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative SLC7A3 levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
