Compound Overview
11,12-DiHETrE is a dihydroxy fatty acid metabolite of Arachidonic Acid. Its formation increases under elevated soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) activity, a process closely related to inflammation and oxidative stress. It can serve as a single biomarker differentiating NAFL (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) from NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis), and it can be used in studies on preterm birth, autism, and pulmonary hypertension[1][2][3][4][5].
It has the molecular formula C20H34O4, MW 338.48.

In Vitro
Levels of 11,12-DiHETrE decrease following sEH inhibitor administration, so it can act as a pharmacodynamic biomarker for soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitors[1]. Plasma 11,12-DiHETrE concentrations are significantly higher in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) than in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and healthy controls[2]. A significant positive correlation exists between 11,12-DiHETrE and the presence of resting pulmonary arterial hypertension[3]. Individuals with higher 11,12-DiHETrE exposure in umbilical cord blood are more likely to present with severe autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms[4]. Elevated 11,12-DiHETrE levels reflect an imbalance in the pro-resolving/anti-inflammatory pathway[5].
