Scientific background

2'MeO6MF is a synthetic compound that acts as a potentiator of GABA(A) receptors. Studies show that the compound can directly activate α2β2/3 and α2β2/3γ2L receptor subtypes without modulating the effect of GABA. 2'MeO6MF was shown to potentiate the response to GABA in Xenopus oocytes with EC50 values ranging from 21 µM to 98 µM, depending on subunit combination1.2'MeO6MF is a useful tool for studying the complex nature of the activation and modulation of GABA(A) receptor subtypes1,2.At high dosage, 2'MeO6MF induces sedative effects, and anxiolytic effects at low doses1.GABAA receptors belong to the pentameric Cys-loop superfamily of ligand-gated ion channel receptors and are physiologically significant in the central nervous system. GABA(A) receptors are the site of action for many clinically-relevant chemicals including benzodiazepines, barbiturates and anaesthetics1,2.
