5α-Pregnane-3α,20α-diol, also known as Allopregnanediol, is a derivative of progesterone and is one of several steroids secreted by the ovaries of rats. In castrated, estrogen-pretreated rats, it can significantly stimulate release of luteinizing hormone (LH) while simultaneously inhibiting secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)[1]. It has the molecular formula C21H36O2 and a molecular weight of 320.51 g/mol.
