Compound Overview

8(Z)-Eicosenoic acid, also known as cis-8-Eicosenoic acid, is a cis-unsaturated free fatty acid containing a 20-carbon chain. In Xenopus oocytes, it potentiates acetylcholine (ACh) receptor channel currents without causing depression and enhances PCKε phosphorylation of a substrate peptide. Seed oil isolated from B. collina contains this fatty acid at a level of 6% of its total fatty acid pool. It has the molecular formula C20H38O2 and a molecular weight of 310.51 g/mol.
