Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of PLIN2 (Perilipin-2) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-ADFP/PLIN2 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB10083. Tested in Flow Cytometry, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human ADFP recombinant protein (Position: K226-Q418). Human ADFP shares 88.4% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse ADFP. (reported region: K226-Q418).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 48 kDa; calculated MW: 48 kDa
  • Reactivity: Human
  • Applications: Flow Cytometry, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Perilipin-2; Perilipin-2. Adipose differentiation-related protein, also known as perilipin 2 (PLIN2), ADRP or adipophilin, is a protein which in humans is encoded by the ADFP gene. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the perilipin family, members of which coat intracellular lipid storage droplets. This protein is associated with the lipid globule surface membrane material, and maybe involved in development and maintenance of adipose tissue. However, it is not restricted to adipocytes as previously thought, but is found in a wide range of cultured cell lines, including fibroblasts, endothelial and epithelial cells, and tissues, such as lactating mammary gland, adrenal cortex, Sertoli and Leydig cells, and hepatocytes in alcoholic liver cirrhosis, suggesting that it may serve as a marker of lipid accumulation in diverse cell types and diseases. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. Functional note: May be involved in development and maintenance of adipose tissue. . Reported localization: Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Expression/tissue context: Milk lipid globules.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Metabolic Signaling Pathway: Researchers commonly examine how PLIN2 (Perilipin-2) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

  • Metabolism: Researchers commonly examine how PLIN2 (Perilipin-2) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative PLIN2 (Perilipin-2) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and shifts in expression; gating strategy and background staining controls are essential.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
