Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody targets branched-chain-amino-acid aminotransferase, mitochondrial (gene BCAT2) in human, mouse and rat samples and is validated for Western blot, IHC, ICC/IF, flow cytometry and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 44.3 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 39 kDa.
BCAT2 is the mitochondrial branched-chain aminotransferase that catalyzes the first step in the breakdown of leucine, isoleucine and valine in most peripheral tissues, notably skeletal muscle. It feeds branched-chain keto acids to the BCKD complex and is studied in metabolic health, insulin resistance and adipocyte lipid synthesis.

Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human RT4 cells, human 293T cells, human A431 cells, rat kidney tissue, rat heart tissue, rat stomach tissue, mouse kidney tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with confirmed staining (IHC): human colon adenocarcinoma tissue, human lung cancer tissue, human urothelial carcinoma tissue, human liver cancer tissue.
Recommended antigen retrieval: heat-mediated, in TE buffer (pH 9.0); citrate buffer (pH 6.0) can be used instead.
Conditions in the example images (IHC): heat-mediated antigen retrieval in EDTA buffer (pH 8.0).
Samples with confirmed staining (ICC/IF): human intestinal cancer tissue.
Samples with a confirmed signal (flow cytometry): MCF-7 cells.
Immunogen
Recombinant human BCAT2 fragment (Ala11–Glu363), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the mouse and rat orthologs: 83.6% and 81.9%, respectively.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse and rat. UniProt places branched-chain-amino-acid aminotransferase, mitochondrial in the mitochondrion. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Ubiquitous. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
