Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects cholinesterase (gene BCHE) in human samples and is validated for Western blot and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 68.4 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 85–90 kDa.
Butyrylcholinesterase (BCHE) is a serine esterase made in the liver and found in plasma, with broader substrate specificity than acetylcholinesterase. It hydrolyzes acetylcholine and choline esters as well as drugs such as succinylcholine, and it scavenges organophosphate nerve agents and pesticides. Genetic variants that lower its activity cause prolonged responses to certain muscle relaxants.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.25–0.5 µg/mL (Human) |
|---|---|
| ELISA | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): human 293T cells, human HeLa cells.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 30 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.5 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Immunogen
Recombinant human BCHE fragment (Glu29–Leu602), expressed in E. coli. Sequence identity with the mouse ortholog: 80.8%.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt describes cholinesterase as a secreted protein. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Detected in blood plasma (at protein level). The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
