Product Overview
This rabbit polyclonal antibody targets betaine--homocysteine S-methyltransferase 1 (gene BHMT) in human, mouse, rat and monkey samples and is validated for Western blot, flow cytometry and ELISA. The predicted molecular weight is 45.0 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 45 kDa.
Betaine–homocysteine S-methyltransferase (BHMT) is a zinc enzyme highly expressed in liver and kidney that transfers a methyl group from betaine to homocysteine, producing dimethylglycine and methionine. It provides a folate-independent route for homocysteine remethylation and links choline oxidation with methionine metabolism.

Validated Applications
| Western blot | 0.1–0.25 µg/mL (Mouse, Rat, Monkey) |
|---|---|
| Flow cytometry (fixed cells) | 1–3 µg/1×106 cells (Human) |
| ELISA | 0.1–0.5 µg/mL |
Samples with a confirmed band (WB): rat liver tissue, mouse liver tissue, monkey liver tissue.
Recommended loading (WB): 20–40 µg of total protein per lane.
Conditions in the example images (WB): 5–20% gradient SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, 50 µg lysate per lane, transfer to nitrocellulose membrane, blocking in 5% non-fat milk, primary antibody at 0.25 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C, HRP-conjugated secondary antibody at 1:5000, ECL detection.
Samples with a confirmed signal (flow cytometry): HepG2 cells, U937 cells.
Immunogen
Recombinant human BHMT fragment (Glu80–Gln406), expressed in E. coli.
Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human, mouse, rat and monkey. UniProt places betaine--homocysteine S-methyltransferase 1 in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Found exclusively in liver and kidney. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
