Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of Crp (C-reactive protein) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-C Reactive Protein/Crp Antibody Picoband® catalog # A00249-1. Tested in ELISA, IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived mouse Crp recombinant protein (Position: H20-S225). Mouse Crp shares 71.9% and 72.7% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with human and rat Crp, respectively. (reported region: H20-S225).
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 25 kDa; calculated MW: 25360 MW
  • Reactivity: Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: ELISA, IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

C-reactive protein; C-reactive protein. C Reactive Protein (CRP) is a major acute phase reactant synthesized primarily in the liver hepatocytes. It is composed of 5 identical, 21,500-molecular weight subunits. CRP mediates activities associated with preimmune nonspecific host resistance. CRP shows the strongest association with cardiovascular events. It is detectable on the surface of about 4% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes. Acute phase reactant CRP is produced in the liver. Functional note: Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Found in plasma.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Apoptosis: Researchers commonly examine how Crp (C-reactive protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Atherosclerosis: Researchers commonly examine how Crp (C-reactive protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cardiovascular: Researchers commonly examine how Crp (C-reactive protein) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative Crp (C-reactive protein) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of Crp (C-reactive protein) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
  • ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.

We have been able to see staining in mouse liver. What should we do? Is anti-C Reactive Protein/Crp antibody supposed to stain liver positively?
From literature liver does express CRP. From Uniprot.org, CRP is expressed in right lobe of liver, liver, urinary bladder, among other tissues. Regarding which tissues have CRP expression, here are a few articles citing expression in various tissues: Liver, Pubmed ID: 15489334 Urinary bladder, Pubmed ID: 14702039
Does anti-C Reactive Protein/Crp antibody A00249-1 work for ELISA with liver?
According to the expression profile of liver, CRP is highly expressed in liver. So, it is likely that anti-C Reactive Protein/Crp antibody A00249-1 will work for ELISA with liver.
