Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of CRP in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-C Reactive Protein/CRP Antibody Picoband® catalog # A00249-4. Tested in IHC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human C Reactive Protein, which shares 68.8% and 53.1% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with mouse and rat C Reactive Protein, respectively.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 25 kDa; calculated MW: nan
  • Reactivity: Human
  • Applications: IHC, WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

C-reactive protein. C Reactive Protein (CRP) is a major acute phase reactant synthesized primarily in the liver hepatocytes. It is composed of 5 identical, 21,500-molecular weight subunits. CRP mediates activities associated with preimmune nonspecific host resistance. CRP shows the strongest association with cardiovascular events. It is detectable on the surface of about 4% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes. Acute phase reactant CRP is produced in the liver. Functional note: Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. Reported localization: Secreted. Expression/tissue context: Found in plasma.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Apoptosis: Researchers commonly examine how CRP relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Atherosclerosis: Researchers commonly examine how CRP relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cardiovascular: Researchers commonly examine how CRP relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative CRP levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
  • IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of CRP across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
