Product Overview
Clone 17C85 is a rabbit monoclonal antibody that recognizes complement C4-A (gene C4A) in human samples and is validated for Western blot and ICC/IF. The predicted molecular weight is 192.8 kDa, and the supplier reports an observed band at about 193 kDa.
Complement C4-A is one of two closely related C4 isotypes in humans. Cleaved by C1s or MASP2, it releases C4b, which binds covalently to target surfaces and combines with C2a to form the classical and lectin pathway C3 convertase, and C4a, a weak anaphylatoxin. C4 copy number and levels are studied in autoimmunity and immune complex clearance.

Reactivity Notes
The supplier lists reactivity with human. UniProt describes complement C4-A as secreted and also located in the synapse, cell projection and cell surface. Tissue expression noted by UniProt (human): Complement component C4 is expressed at highest levels in the liver, at moderate levels in the adrenal cortex, adrenal medulla, thyroid gland, and the kidney, and at lowest levels in the heart, ovary, small intestine, thymus, pancreas and spleen. The samples tested by the supplier (listed above) are a practical starting point for positive controls.
