Key elements and design rationale
- Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
- Immunogen / epitope context: E. coli-derived human CACNA2D2 recombinant protein (Position: Q66-Q284). (reported region: Q66-Q284).
- Molecular weight context: reported MW: 130 kDa; calculated MW: nan
- Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
- Applications: ELISA, Flow Cytometry, IHC, ICC, WB
As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.
Biological background
Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase-like 2; calcium voltage-gated channel auxiliary subunit alpha2delta 2. Voltage-dependent calcium channel subunit alpha2delta-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CACNA2D2 gene. This gene is mapped to 3p21.31. It encodes a member of the alpha-2/delta subunit family, a protein in the voltage-dependent calcium channel complex. Calcium channels mediate the influx of calcium ions into the cell upon membrane polarization and consist of a complex of alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Various versions of each of these subunits exist, either expressed from similar genes or the result of alternative splicing. Research on a highly similar protein in rabbit suggests the protein described in this record is cleaved into alpha-2 and delta subunits. Alternate transcriptional splice variants of this gene, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. Functional note: The alpha-2/delta subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels regulates calcium current density and activation/inactivation kinetics of the calcium channel. Acts as a regulatory subunit for P/Q-type calcium channel (CACNA1A), N-type (CACNA1B), L-type (CACNA1C OR CACNA1D) and possibly T-type (CACNA1G). Overexpression induces apoptosis. Reported localization: Membrane; Colocalizes with CACNA1A in lipid raft fractions. Expression/tissue context: Predominantly present in cerebellar cortex. Present in various lung tumor cell lines, while it is absent in normal lung (at protein level). Highly expressed in heart, lung, testis, pancreas and skeletal muscle. Also expressed in kidney, liver, placenta and brain.

Common research applications
- Western blotting: compare relative CACNA2D2 (Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase-like 2) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.
- IHC/IHC-F: assess spatial distribution of CACNA2D2 (Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase-like 2) across tissue regions and cell types using matched controls.
- IF/ICC: evaluate subcellular localization and co-localization patterns; signal can depend on fixation/permeabilization and epitope accessibility.
- Flow cytometry: quantify target-positive populations and shifts in expression; gating strategy and background staining controls are essential.
- ELISA-compatible use: when applicable, interpret signal as relative abundance across sample sets with consistent handling and dilution strategy.
Notes for experimental interpretation
- Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
- Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
- Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
- Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
