Vendor description (summary): Boster Bio Anti-Carbonic Anhydrase 4/CA4 Picoband® Antibody catalog # A01523-3.

Biological background

Biological context: Reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. May stimulate the sodium/bicarbonate transporter activity of SLC4A4.

Expression and localization notes: cellular localization: Cell membrane. GPI-anchor., tissue context: Expressed in the endothelium of the choriocapillaris in eyes (at protein level). Not expressed in the retinal epithelium at detectable levels. ..

Common research applications

  • Western blotting (WB): Compare Ca4 levels across samples and conditions using appropriate loading and biological controls.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Evaluate spatial distribution of Ca4 in tissue sections, considering fixation and antigen retrieval effects.
  • Flow cytometry: Quantify Ca4-positive populations in single-cell suspensions with appropriate gating and controls.
  • ELISA: Use antibody-based detection formats to assess antigen presence or binding in plate-based assays.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Account for isoforms, post-translational modifications, and sample-specific processing that can shift apparent molecular weight or epitope accessibility.
  • Use positive/negative biological controls where possible (e.g., known-expressing cells/tissues, knockdown/knockout models) and include appropriate secondary-only/isotype controls for imaging workflows.

Additional product notes (from provided fields)

  • Specificity: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Background: Carbonic anhydrase 4 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CA4 gene. It is mapped to 11; 11 C. Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They participate in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. They show extensive diversity in tissue distribution and in their subcellular localization. This gene encodes a glycosylphosphatidyl-inositol-anchored membrane isozyme expressed on the luminal surfaces of pulmonary (and certain other) capillaries and proximal renal tubules. Its exact function is not known; however, it may have a role in inherited renal abnormalities of bicarbonate transport.
  • Cross reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cellular localization: Cell membrane. GPI-anchor.
  • Tissue details: Expressed in the endothelium of the choriocapillaris in eyes (at protein level). Not expressed in the retinal epithelium at detectable levels. .
