Overview

This antibody is intended for detection of CASP2 (Caspase-2) in biological samples using common immunoassay formats. It is typically selected based on target identity, species reactivity, clonality/clone information, and detection modality.

Vendor notes: Boster Bio Anti-Caspase-2/CASP2 Antibody Picoband® catalog # PB9368. Tested in WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. The brand Picoband indicates this is a premium antibody that guarantees superior quality, high affinity, and strong signals with minimal background in Western blot applications. Only our best-performing antibodies are designated as Picoband, ensuring unmatched performance.

Key elements and design rationale

  • Antibody format: Rabbit Polyclonal Rabbit IgG
  • Immunogen / epitope context: A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the C-terminus of human Caspase-2, different from the related mouse and rat sequences by one amino acid.
  • Molecular weight context: reported MW: 18 kDa; calculated MW: 50685 MW
  • Reactivity: Human,Mouse,Rat
  • Applications: WB

As a polyclonal antibody, the reagent recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can improve detection robustness but may increase sensitivity to sample-dependent epitope changes.

Biological background

Caspase-2; Caspase-2. CASP2 is equal to Caspase-2. And Caspase-2, which is involved in stress-induced apoptosis, is recruited into a large protein complex, the molecular composition of which remains elusive. It is showed that activation of caspase-2 occurs in a complex that contains the death domain-containing protein PIDD, whose expression is induced by p53, and the adaptor protein RAIDD. Increased PIDD expression resulted in spontaneous activation of caspase-2 and sensitization to apoptosis by genotoxic stimuli. Caspase-2 acts both as a positive and negative cell death effector, depending upon cell lineage and stage of development. Functional note: Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Might function by either activating some proteins required for cell death or inactivating proteins necessary for cell survival. Expression/tissue context: Expressed at higher levels in the embryonic lung, liver and kidney than in the heart and brain. In adults, higher level expression is seen in the placenta, lung, kidney, and pancreas than in the heart, brain, liver and skeletal muscle.

Research relevance and current trends

  • Apoptosis: Researchers commonly examine how CASP2 (Caspase-2) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Apoptotic Markers: Researchers commonly examine how CASP2 (Caspase-2) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.
  • Cancer: Researchers commonly examine how CASP2 (Caspase-2) relates to this theme using model systems and orthogonal readouts.

Common research applications

  • Western blotting: compare relative CASP2 (Caspase-2) levels across conditions; band patterns may reflect isoforms and processing.

Notes for experimental interpretation

  • Specificity notes: No cross reactivity with other proteins.
  • Cross-reactivity: No cross-reactivity with other proteins.
  • Family / similarity context: Belongs to the peptidase C14A family.
  • Isoforms and PTMs: Apparent size and signal patterns can differ across splice isoforms, proteolytic processing, and post-translational modifications.
  • Controls: Include an isotype control (as relevant), no-primary control for imaging, and orthogonal validation such as KD/KO samples when available.
